Thank you fans and supporters...
Another season has come and gone. The FDNY Hockey Team would like to take this opportunity to thank all our fans and supporters for making our season such a success. With your help we were able to make a donation to FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation (http://www.firefamilytransport.org/) to purchase a new van for their fleet. The central focus of the Foundation is assisting the families of firefighters in their times of greatest need, in transporting firefighters, family members and department personnel to and from medical institutions both for care and family support.
After the closing of the Nassau Coliseum, we had to move the game back to New York City to Madison Square Garden for the 43rd Annual FDNY-NYPD Charity Hockey Game. This year’s game saw a sold out crowd of almost 17,000 fans. The FDNY Team fell behind a couple goals early in the first period. Joe Sanger made it 3-1 with 5:57 to go in the first period. Anthony Antenucci and Tom Reno scored in the second period. The NYPD led 6-3 at the beginning of the third period. Chris Princiotta scored halfway through the third to make it 6-4. The FDNY had a 5 on 3 power play with 10:22 left on the clock. Chris Princiotta scored again with 2:22 on remaining in the game. FDNY hit the post with under a minute to play but were unable to tie it up. Even though we outshot the NYPD 51-37 we came up a little short in the 6-5 loss. Chris Princiotta was the FDNY MVP of the game with 2 goals and 1 assist. A special thanks goes out to our scorekeeper Larry ‘Redlight’ Feilich and team photographer Dennis Whittam. Photos of the game and previous games can be seen at http://www.nyfirephotos.com.
The King of the Ice Tournament (www.FDNYkingoftheice.com) moved to Northwell Skating Center at Eisenhower Park. We were able to have 2 rinks going this year and cut the tournament down to 8 days. Thank you to all FDNY members that participated. Congratulations to E-14/E-65 on winning the 21st Annual King of the Ice. The King of the Wheels Tournament was another success heading into its 7th year. Thank you to everyone that came out for it.
Over the past months we have received many emails for purchasing team merchandise. We would like to announce that we have partnered up with Sideline Swap (https://sidelineswap.com/FDNYHockey) to sell our team merchandise. We will be selling t-shirts for men, women and kids, sweatshirts, hats and jerseys.
Again, the FDNY Hockey Team would like to thank all our fans and supporters. Without you we wouldn’t be able to make the charitable donations that we do. See you again next year.
