On Saturday, March 24, 2018 the FDNY faced off with the NYPD in the 45th Annual Charity Hockey Game. First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh represented the FDNY in the opening ceremony, and a moment of silence was held for members who made the Supreme Sacrifice this year in the line-of-duty - Lt. Christopher Raguso, Lt. Michael Davidson, Fire Marshal Christopher "Tripp" Zanetis and FF. William Tolley - and all those lost to illness as a result of the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center.
The FDNY Hockey Team made a $15,000 donation to the Ray Pfeifer Foundation. MCU made a $5,000 donation to the FDNY/NYPD Hockey Teams. Our team sponsor, Haix, also participated in the pre-game ceremony. It also was a celebration of 50 Years of Bravest Hockey, founded back in 1968, by members Tim Gallagher, Ed McLoughlin and Gene Scott. Ed dropped the ceremonial puck with long time GM Billy Kammerer for the FDNY while Gerry Cassagne dropped it for NYPD and also Bobby Tolley, brother of FF. William Tolley.
The puck dropped at noon and the NYPD started the scoring with a quick power play goal from McAleer (Lopes) at 19:02. John Sullivan (Kern) tied it up on a power play goal at 16:51, tying the score 1-1 for the 1st period.
Steve Romano scored an unassisted goal at 15:28 of the second period. Power play goals later in the second by Finest player Gambardella (Harrigan) at 5:51 and Bravest player Joe Sanger (Zeilman) at 4:41. So after the second period it was New York’s Bravest leading 3-2.
NYPD’s Lopes (Harrigan) tied it up with a little over two minutes into the 3rd period. Chris Princiotta (Keane) gave the FDNY a 4-3 lead a little less than half way through the third but it was NYPD’s Gabay (Antiok, Antianades) who tied it up and end in regulation 4-4.
Due to the New York Rangers playing later that evening the teams had to be off the ice by a set time so it went straight to a 3-man shootout. Being the home team, NYPD decided to shoot last so the Fire Department was shooting first.

The 8th annual King of The Wheels is coming up and emails were sent out to team captains. The deadline for registration and payment is November 21st. It will be held at Skate Safe in Old Bethpage from December 5th to December 16th. Each team will play one day the 1st week (round robin) and one day the 2nd week (playoffs). All teams will play 3 games the first day and at least 2 games the second day.
Forms can be found here: Flyer and Registration Form
The round robin will be played from December 5th to December 9th. Please list in order what days are best for your house on the registration form. Please indicate any days that don't work for your house that week on your registration form as well. We are planning on using Wednesday December 7th, Thursday December 8th and Friday December 9th for the round robin. If the rink schedule changes or we have an increase in teams from last year then we will use different or additional days. Once the schedule is made it can't be changed.
Please check on any house functions, boys night outs, weddings, ice hockey schedule and anything else that might cause a conflict. The playoffs will be held December 12th to December 16th and the day you play will be determined by how your team does in the round robin.
Playoffs could be any day the week of December 12th. It is looking like Thursday December 15th and Friday December 16th but these dates could change due to the rinks schedule. An additional day may be added if needed to accommodate more teams.
The rink is under new management so some things have changed and we might need to adjust to the new management. That is why I'm uncertain of some of the days. They need to see what rink time on what days they need for kids clinics and classes they offer every day.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT GAMES COULD START AT 8AM THIS YEAR FOR BOTH ROUND ROBIN AND PLAYOFFS

The central focus of the Foundation is assisting the families of firefighters in their times of greatest need, in transporting firefighters, family members and department personnel to and from medical institutions both for care and family support.
After the closing of the Nassau Coliseum, we had to move the game back to New York City to Madison Square Garden for the 43rd Annual FDNY-NYPD Charity Hockey Game. This year’s game saw a sold out crowd of almost 17,000 fans. The FDNY Team fell behind a couple goals early in the first period. Joe Sanger made it 3-1 with 5:57 to go in the first period. Anthony Antenucci and Tom Reno scored in the second period. The NYPD led 6-3 at the beginning of the third period. Chris Princiotta scored halfway through the third to make it 6-4. The FDNY had a 5 on 3 power play with 10:22 left on the clock. Chris Princiotta scored again with 2:22 on remaining in the game. FDNY hit the post with under a minute to play but were unable to tie it up. Even though we outshot the NYPD 51-37 we came up a little short in the 6-5 loss. Chris Princiotta was the FDNY MVP of the game with 2 goals and 1 assist. A special thanks goes out to our scorekeeper Larry ‘Redlight’ Feilich and team photographer Dennis Whittam.
